First you need to ask yourself what the market demand is for the products or services you will be offering. Make sure it means the wants or needs of millions of people in order to have some potential. Finding a niche market is important since your resources are quite limited with a small home based business opportunity.

Ask yourself how often the target market trend will change. If the market trend changes often then you will be facing a higher risk with the products you carry. Also keep in mind the inventory holding costs and the insurance your inventory might require. For some businesses you may also need to be prepared to lower your prices when the market changes.

Next consider logistics. Do you have to deliver all the products? If you are offering physical goods then this could mean you have to pay additional money for delivery such as postage and insurance if the products are expensive. Then if you are shipping overseas there is additional costs and the risks of shipment losses and damaged products.
