Think Outside the Backup Box

If you're like me, you have loads of files which are extremely
important to your Internet business.
I have these files backed up on CD, an external hard drive
which is in another place, plus two different computers because
I have thousands of hours invested in making these files.
But it also dawned on me, I have web hosting where I AM using
less than 5% for files. I've been with this company for 7
years and they've never lost any of site information or been
down more than 2 to 3 hours each year.
So I have decided to upload my Paint Shop Pro zipped files
and ebook files there also.
By making a Backup Directory then doing sub-directories,
I can organize my data should I ever need to download these
original files. If I name my zip files correctly (using dates),
I can constantly rotate my backups.
Or not because I might want to keep the original files to
prove dates I created them if there was ever a copyright issue.
I would also include a .htaccess file that would not allow
people to access these directories.
The reason I decided this might be a good idea is because
a woman on a tech list is having trouble backing up her data
because her hard drive is going bad and she can not access
her CD-ROM drive but she can get onto the Internet.
So I suggested she upload her information to one of the places
on the Internet. Then Bingo, it comes to me, I have the perfect
place to do this also without worrying if someone could gain
access to my files.
It might seem I AM overdoing my backups but hey, redoing
all my work would mean thousand of dollars going down the
tube. Are you in this same position? Then maybe you too should
think outside the backup box if you are already paying for
space and haven't used it.
