"Help!" the twentysomething croaked, learning he was
to have his interview for a high level IT job at an upscale restaurant.
"What if I forget what fork to use?
When it comes to business dining etiquette, which fork to use is
rarely a problem - especially during lunch.
The key thing to remember is that the interview isn't about eating,
it's about the presenting yourself effectively and positioning yourself
for the job.
Here are 5 Quick Tips For Success
- Eat before you get to the restaurant so you are not ravenous.
Think Scarlet O'Hara in Gone with the Wind and just pick at your
plate during the interview.
- Order something "easy" and "neat" to eat.
Picking apart a lobster or crab can be messy, and if your pasta
comes with mussels be certain to arrange the shells neatly.
- Do not order an alcoholic beverage, even if the host insists.
This is not a social lunch (he can also be testing you).
- Put your napkin on your lap as soon as you are seated. Leave
it folded in half on your lap - do not "flap it" out.
- Wait until everyone at the table is served before you pick
up your fork.
Good luck!
